Wednesday and Thursday evenings

Funded through Halton Borough Council's Youth Fund and the National Lottery's Community Fund, our detached & outreach programme takes youth work to the places where young people hang out in parks, streets and other public spaces. Our aims are to look after the health and wellbeing of young people, provide diversionary activities and signpost them to provisions and services available to meet their wants and needs.

Supported by the Ragdoll Foundation, the Street Voice project involved  professional rap and beatbox artist, James Lyons accompanying our detached teams for 6 weeks. Jay freestyled tailored performances for young people in parks and on the streets of Widnes based on words and phrases that they gave him. He led street rap and beatboxing workshops and recorded sounds and lyrics from the young people who participated. Those sounds and lyrics were converted into professional tracks by Jay who, in the final weeks of the project brought a ,obile production kit out with him to show young people how the tracks were made and help them produce their own impromptu tracks.

The Megamix on the left is a compilation of tracks that Jay produced with young people out on the streets and in parks in Widnes. Below that are two full tracks. Further tracks can be found on our SoundCloud page using the link below:
